Growing Together…
Teachers from all over the province came together at the Little Green Thumbs SK Teacher’s Workshops over the past two weekends to learn all about the Little Green Thumbs Saskatchewan program and how it would be implemented in their classrooms and schools. We were so excited to host the workshops, with the first in Saskatoon on September 5th and 6th, and the second in Regina on September 12th and 13th.
Sessions
Our agenda was packed full of interesting, important and useful information; great food and most importantly lots of enthusiasm and excitement about starting up the program. Some teachers commented that it “feels like Christmas”, as they read about the kit and resources that the Little Green Thumbs program would be providing their schools and classrooms. Our Friday evening sessions included inspirational messages from the experienced 2nd and 3rd year teachers, introductions to the program, and fun games to get the networking started. The Saturday sessions tackled the the garden kit set-up, what to expect with the Little Green Thumbs Saskatchewan program, and brainstorming about Celebration Events. The teachers even got to take home soil and worms to begin their vermicomposting the next week!
Guest Speakers
The Little Green Thumbs Saskatchewan program was very fortunate to have Joe Munroe from Heifer International as a guest speaker on First Nations Worldview. His session was enjoyed by everyone and gave a great perspective on the program for the teachers. Our second guest speaker was Patricia Hanbidge, Principal of the Saskatoon School of Horticulture and the Executive Director of Crocus Co-Op. Patricia taught the teachers about the incredible world of horticulture; discussing seed selection, germination, plant reproduction, and giving great tips on projects the teachers can do with the kids. Thank you so much to both of our guest speakers, Joe and Patricia, for your interest and your gifts of knowledge to this program. We are very grateful for your contributions to the workshops.
THANK YOU!!!
Here at Little Green Thumbs Saskatchewan, we are so lucky to have such wonderful teachers to work with as participants, and we want to wish them all the best of luck in the upcoming year. We would also love to thank Mr. Figueroa and St. Michael Community School for hosting our Saskatoon Teacher’s Workshop. It is thanks largely to the great contributions of the teachers involved that the program has been, and will continue to be, so successful! We would also like to thank to generous donations of time and energy from Agriculture in the Classroom, First Nations Agricultural Council of Saskatchewan, and Heifer International for their commitment to making the Little Green Thumbs SK program Teacher’s Workshops a great success.
