Agriculture in the Classroom

Adrianne has been the LGT Coordinator with Agriculture in the Classroom Sask since January, 2008 and lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  She has a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree from the University of Saskatchewan majoring in Land Use and Environmental Studies.  Adrianne has also studied in Lund, Sweden in a Masters program for Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science, as well as part of the Certificate in Ecological Education offered by the University of Saskatchewan.  She has a passion for learning and teaching about the natural world, so her work as the LGT Coordinator fulfills both of these.

Adrianne sees the possibilities in garden based learning, as it provides an opportunity for every child to discover nature at their own pace and in the comfort of their learning environment.  To her, the Little Green Thumbs program, and garden based learning in general gives a level of understanding to science, social studies and life that can’t be learned from field trips, as the gardens become part of every day life.  In her travels and studies abroad, Adrianne has discovered that true societal change can only be acheived if there are viable options for everyday people.  As life becomes busier, with more competition for our time, shifts toward sustainable living must feel seamless and effortless- just a normal part of life.  She views the Little Green Thumbs program as a wonderful step, giving students skills to a future more in line with the natural world, connecting with the land and those wonderful people who grow our food… FARMERS!

Adrianne loves to spend time outdoors hiking with her dog, gardening, camping, and playing sports.  She has been involved with competitive artistic gymnastics for many years and enjoys coaching and teaching fitness classes.
