Latest News:
Some reports on diseased cucumbers have surfaced this year. Symptoms may include leaves getting brownish spots, then drying up, baby cucumbers starting up, then drying up, resulting in plant death overall. If you are noticing any issues with your cucumbers, or any of your plants for that matter, please do the following:
- Take a photo of the affected plant, the affected leaves and the healthy leaves
- If possible do a pH test of the soil and water
- Send the photo to Adrianne or a horticulture expert in your area with the following information:
- Type of plant and variety
- Date planted
- medium in which it was planted (soil type)
- results of the pH test
- other information you may feel is relevant (ie: high levels of chlorine in water, etc.)
Garden Tip for December, 2009
Make sure all your seedlings have been transplanted into self-watering containers prior to the break!!
Although plants do really well indoors, they still have the tendency to reach towards a light source. For instance, if your light source is towards the right side, all your plants would be inclined towards the right side in order to get sunlight. Its better to rotate your plants occasionally for them to grow straight. You may also want to consider raising or lowering your lightbulb to give your plants the best opportunities for growth!
Sharing your growth:
Adrianne has heard some incredible stories of how being part of the Little Green Thumbs program has inspired teachers in other aspects of their teaching and lives in general.
Do you have a story you would like to share with us and other teachers? If so, please mail, email or fax your story to info@littlegreenthumbssk.ca, as we would like to inspire future teachers with your successes!
